Description & Details: The City of Cherryvale is seeking to fill the position of Public Works Director with a team and goal oriented individual. The City has a population of 2,100 in Southeast Kansas with a Mayor/Council form of government. The Public Works Director is a Department Head level position responsible for the management of the City’s infrastructure including streets, water, wastewater, parks, pools, cemetery, and supervision of 5 full-time public works employees. The Public Works Director develops and implements long and short-term goals and objectives; oversees the maintenance of all city facilities; solicits and received competitive bids; assists in the annual budget development; works with engineers and contractors; responsible for compliance with Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations; and attends meetings of the Governing Body.
The successful candidate will have a strong work ethic, leadership and communication skills, be proactive and have a high-level of expertise on issues related to public works and utility management. Minimum requirements for the position include a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver’s license, and at least 3 years of progressively responsible leadership in municipal government or utility operations and management. Candidate must have Sanitary Sewer, Water, and Class I Waste Water Certificates or become certified within 1 year of employment. Candidate must have a valid CDL.
Salary range starts at $40,000, DOQ, health and dental insurance, KPERS, holiday, vacation, and sick leave packages.
